France

The wonderful thing about this country is that it is so SWISS!! Picture perfect farms and villages, with belled cows grazing the hillside meadows, herds of goats and sheep in the upper alpine grazing grounds, friendly hikers and bikers along the trails. Visualize yourself beside a lake or stream with a picnic of bread, sausages, cheese, fruit and wine.

The efficient Swiss have even made going into and out of the mountains a snap. Take a train to the top of the range that includes the Eiger or other mountain peaks, then walk back down, if you choose, to your delightful village chalet or hotel. Walk between villages, take aerial gondolas or cog railways between them, ski between them. Any season of the year, the mountains have experiences to offer you. And, of course, there are myriad opportunities for those who wish to simply sit, sog, and enjoy the magnificent scenery and delicious food and wines.

Or, visit superb museums in cities that also offer great shopping, restaurants, music and theatre. One museum is dedicated to the transportation system in Switzerland – river
steamers, lake cruisers, gondolas, trams, steam engines, cog railways – if it has contributed to moving people and goods within the country it is shown here. Fascinating! Open air museums will show you the Swiss way of country life.

While Switzerland is worth an entire holiday, its proximity to France, Italy and Germany makes it ideal for forays into those countries, too.
